In the warmer months people like to gather outdoors and there is nothing better than grilled food. When the weather is nice nothing tastes better than grilled food.
I love grilling outdoors and often been found in the dead of winter creating some of my favorite recipes. Grilling is refreshing and an inviting way to have friends and family over to enjoy a delicious meal and some cold drinks.
Being a master of the grill is an art and creates some challenges. Sauté, roasting, blackening and of course grilling needs the right flame and the best ingredients.
Today, I hope to inspire you to master your grill skills and expand your palate for the rustic taste of these easy grilled shrimp skewers.
Grilling is a skill that everyone does all around the world, there is not a culture that does not experience preparing food over an open flame from burgers to shrimp.
Tips for Easy Grill Shrimp Skewer Recipe
Your grill should always be at least twelve feet away from anything that will catch a flame.
Shrimp should be at room temperature before grilling to ensure even cook time.
Bring everything you need to the grill before you cook shrimp such as potholders, olive oil, tongs and platter.
Always clean grates before and after grilling. It is easier to clean the grill when it is warm.
To prevent anything sticky including your grill shrimp brush grates with olive oil.
Know what heat your need for grilling your items such as indirect and direct heat. Shrimp grills better in direct heat and prevent drying out and burning.
Finally, never overcrowd your grill.
Is Easy Grill Shrimp Keto Friendly?
Eighty-five percent of shrimp is import from countries such as Asia and Mexico. Many packages of shrimp sold in the supermarkets are farm raised. On shrimps’ package I recommend looking for “wild caught” and has Best Aquaculture Practices.
Shrimp is a great option for Keto Followers because three ounces has nineteen grams of protein which is the same at three eggs. Also, shrimp has iron, Vitamin B-12, and 1 gram of fat.
How Long to Cook Grilled Shrimp?
Shrimp is very versatile to satisfy your taste buds. You can broil, fry and of course grill shrimp to have a create a healthy, light meal. Shrimp should be raw and wild when looking to purchase for grilling. Color of shrimp can vary from light gray to pink depending on the water type the shrimp came from. When shrimp is fully cooked on the grill it should be a pale pink to determine it is done.
Never overcook your shrimp because it will become rubbery. I grill my shrimp about three to five minutes each side.
Choose shrimp for grilling that is medium to large in size. Shrimp should be firm and slippery and no foul smells.
If you buy shrimp that is frozen it takes little time to defrost. Place shrimp in a bowl and defrost overnight in the fridge. Once shrimp is thawed cook it within three days.
Grilling Tool Must Have’s
Skewers can be either metal or wood. I prefer using metal for grilling because it eliminates the soaking.
Metal Tongs should have a long handle to making flipping and turning easier.
Silicone Gloves or Mitts should be heat resistance and long enough to protect hands and lower parts of the arms.
Grill Brush should be sturdy and strong. A wire grill brush is used to clean the grill between use.
Basting Brush that are nice to use are silicone and great for spreading sauces and Mirandes.
Cleaning a Gas Grill
The more your grill grates are seasoned the better grilling will become and your shrimp will taste better. With regular maintenance and care you should have a nice, seasoned grill and it will expand it life.
Preheat your grill with all burners on high. Let the grill warm up for about ten minutes. Scrub the hot grates of the grill with a grill brush.
After you are done grilling your shrimp, close the lid and leave on for additional ten minutes to burn off the food. Again, scrub your grates with your grill brush.

Equipment used to Make Grilled Shimp
- Mixing Bowl Set
- Basting Brushes
- Metal Tongs
- Metal or Wooden Skewers (soaked in water for thirty minutes)
- Silicone Oven Mitts
- Olive Oil Sprayer
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 – 1/2-pound large shrimp peeled and deveined
- One teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- One teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Chopped cilantro for serving
- Lime slices for serving
- Olive Oil for greasing Grill Grates
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, salt, pepper, oregano, paprika, and garlic powder.
Toss the shrimp in the bowl gently to coat them in the marinade. Marinate for no less than thirty minutes but not more than two hours.
Skewer four to six shrimp on each soaked skewer and while skewering the remaining shrimp, place them on a platter.
Heat grill on high, brush grates with olive oil.
Cook the shrimp for two to three minutes on each side until the color is pink and the shrimp is opaque on a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
