Never in a million years did I dream that I would buy a home and fall in love with its personality. Here I am in a home creating a life in it and “no” it is not brand new but, it is old! This old house has much charm and personality and I adore furnishing it with linens, dishes, rugs and curtains from the ear in which it was born.
Decorating and restoring this old home makes me feel like an artist and I have the freedom to express my own personal style.
Do understand this is an old home; many have altered and design this home to their style.
In my living room I have done a lot already but, after the Christmas season it was craving a warm, cozy feeling. Freshly painted and newly design gallery wall it was still lacking the cozy stuff.
Today, I am going to walk your through what I decide makes a living room cozy. A living room that promotes relaxation and for the stress to be left at the door! I am going to give you some much have items that you need to create a cozy living room.
IDEAS FOR DECORATING SHELVES TO CREATE A COZY LIVING ROOM
Shelves in a space can provided organization but, they can bring out style and personality. When decorating shelves design to reflect who you are and the people who live in your home.
I believe when decorating any space to focus on one area for an impact. For example, today I am focusing on my shelving unit but, this can be a mantel, stairway or buffet table.
In my living room the first thing my eye goes to is my large shelving unit and that is the space I want to spend the most time designing a cozy feeling in my living room.
An idea for decorating shelves or any space to create coziness is to find pieces on all shapes and sizes such as large pitchers or vases or dense greenery and flowers.
A variety of shapes and sizes creates interest, movement and definition.
Also, consider color when decorating shelves to create a cozy living room. Choose a color scheme that makes sense within your space. I like using my current home furnishings to decide my color scheme during the winter months that are warming. My living room is cream, brown and blue; therefore, my cozy decorations are red and cream.
Note, you can never go wrong with silver and gold for metals when creating coziness!
Greenery to Create a Cozy Space
Consider adding natural elements to your space such either on shelves or in pots on the floor. Tucking sprigs of greenery and flowers are a pleasant touch to create color and interest to warm up a space. Many seasons I have added faux and real greenery and flowers. Depending on budget the possibilities are endless.
Cutting greens to add to your Shelves for warmth; guess what they are right outside your back door and very cost efficient.
Finally, always consider family members or whoever lives within the home to make
THRIFTED IDEAS TO CREATE A COZY LIVING ROOM
The possibilities are endless but, creating a thrift shelf or shelves for your winter living room is easier than you think.
First remember to think about your current decorations such as color.
In my living room I mostly decorated with cream, brown and blues. My Winter Decoration on my shelves must fit in that color scheme.
Second, consider your decorating style are you traditional, contemporary, country, etc. If does not make sense to decorate shelves for winter in a traditional style if your entire space is contemporary.
Third, if your shelves are decorated from the previous season, it is important for you to remove everything and clean the space before proceeding on the current season.
Remove anything that is from the previous season and anything you do not want on that particular shelf.
Fourth, think highlight, showcase and display! Highlight your life. Showcase your progression through your life and display every an all achievements. Only fill your shelves with things you love, makes you smile and bring cozy vibes.
Fifth, think decorating with neutrals and then decide one to two pops of color to add to your shelves this within your living room.
Creating a base of neutrals will keep your shelves looking less clutter and will be pleasant on your eyes.
When adding pops of color in your color scheme, this will create interested and definitions to your shelf’s this Winter Season.
Creating a Cozy Living Room with Fabric
Using Pillows and Throws to create a cozy living room provides comfort, texture and color. Having soft and cozy fabrics in a room makes you want to relax and spend time in the space.
A nice color palette in placing your pillows and throws around the living room can transform a space and refresh it.
Different types of fabrics in a room can change the tone of the room. A soft velvet can make you feel sophisticated, and a wool provides rugged and warmth.
Changing color in your living room can happen during the season and provide color to warm up a space. In the winter months to make my space cozy, I love added wool and velvet.
Creating a Cozy Living Room Coffee Table
Having a coffee table in a living room will create a sociable area that you will want to gather around to play a game or have a cup of tea.
Coffee Tables have been around for less than a hundred years and there are many styles to choose from. On a coffee table you can arrange and display items to create a cozy vignette such as books, candles, or a green plant.
