Thrifting to Create a Gorgeous Home

Thrift Store can be tricky if you do not have the right strategy in place when shopping them.

First you must know when shopping at a thrift store it is “Wave”! Stoking of the store happen at certain times and days. Your goal is to find out when this happens.

Typically thrift stores are fully stock by Tuesday morning after decluttering happened and donations are dropped off.

Second, know when your local thrift store stocks after big donation days, this is helpful because you can look and explore what may be a resource in creating a gorgeous home.

Third, shop in the morning before large crowds and your able to take your time up and down the aisle.

Fourth, know your local thrift store sale days. Every thrift store I shopped at has a day where they discount items and this is helpful when you have a budget in thrifting to create a gorgeous Home

Finally, look over ever area twice and high and low. Usually, I enter the thrift store and scan the are once and then go back again to really focus on the area that caught my eye. Going through a thrift store twice can be helpful because the first time you may have miss something that would be perfect in Creating a Gorgeous Home

Valuable Things to Look for at the Thrift Store

unique glassware from the thrift store

Look for your style and those one of kind pieces. Note, what you need and only shop for pieces that work well in your space and what you actually need on your list.

Everyone has a personal style and that is what makes their home unique. I personally, love a home that is not a particular style such as modern, contemporary or country but, there are components from each style I love.

When I am out thrifting, I like to focus on one or two spaces at a time. Keeping a list with you at all times with what you are thrifting for will help you to not impulse buy or buy the wrong item.

Favorite Items to Shop for at Thrift Stores

Valuable Things to Look for at the Thrift Store

Pitchers I love white pitchers in many shapes and size and use for many things.  I use to store kitchen utensils or as a vase for flowers. Blue and White Ironstone are items I am always looking for at Thrift Stores.

Thrift Store Secrets

Linens, I look for linens that have different and delicate details.  Also, I live to find anything that looks farmhouse or vintage and white.  Finally, I find linens that might not be used for what it is intend but, I can make other uses for it.

Crocks I love for storing food and storage of many house hold items.

Old Frames and Mirrors at first sight you might not love it but, with so elbow grease and paint it can turn into something you love.

Dishes are great to find at the Thrift Store.  I love to find unique dishes for adding to my existing collection of dishes and love to use in my food photography. Right now, I am on the hunt for red dishes to add to my seasonal tablespaces during holidays.

kichware purchase at a thrift store

Platters, Serving Bowls and Cutting Board are a rare find but when you do I use for not just cutting on but for serving food.

Wood Boxes, Crates and Decorate are an amazing find.  With paint, sanding, etc. you can transform into something that works for your home.

Finding unusual wood boxes are nice because you can use them as decor and hide papers, crafts, etc.

Decorating with Thrift Store Finds

Old Books are a cheap find at a thrift store.  I have found so many great books for a near fraction of a dime. Using books as display or even to read is perfect.

Furniture is a reasonable find at a thrift store you can turn any piece into something amazing. A good, solid furniture pieces is an amazing addition to any home. Changing hardware or even the finish can make an inexpensive touch.

stainless steel thrift store purchases

Stainless Steel Pots/Pans, Enamelware, Cast Iron when you find is a steal.  It is hard to find many of these pieces but when you do you will be doing the “Happy Dance”.

Decorating with Thrift Store Finds

First, create a list with dimensions and items you are looking to purchase. For Example, ” If you are on the hunt for Christmas Dishes to add to your tablespace, what and how many maybe included on your list.”

Know when your thrift stores have sales; head over to the thrift stores social platforms and document special sale days, dates and events.

Shop off season, usually shelves are stocked with Christmas after Christmas.

Decorate with Thrift Store finds that have a theme and similar style to keep the decor looking clutter.

Thrift Store Secrets

Find out your local thrift store sales dates; such as half off day. A lot of time your local thrift store will post sale days on Social Media Platforms.

Shop the bottom up! When scouring the shelves and racks at your local thrift store, look in places that many will not. Shop low and very high for items that many do not see.

Always shop off season, at Christmas time think Spring and vice versa.

Do not be afraid to bargain, the worse the person will say is “NO”! A good rule of thumb is I try to barter for at least 25% less the asking price. Be honest, if priced fair, pay the price!

Research the items you are looking to purchase to determine if the price is fair.

When thrifting you can find the best deals at flea markets, garage sales and church sales.
