I really wanted a space in my kitchen to display some everyday kitchen items that I use often and find pretty.
There was nothing on the market that would be sufficient in my space because I need customizable shelves that would fit in the corner of my kitchen between a window and outlet. This space that I want to add wood shelving in is not perfect becuase of the age of my home.
I shopped and shopped with nothing that would work and be affordable. Lesson Learned if you cannot find anything that will work in your home then just create it.
Tools Needed to Make Kitchen Corner Floating Shelves
Having a basic tool kit is important for many reasons. Your tool kit will depend on where you live and what needs to be maintained. If you live on your own or in an old farmhouse as me, you will need some tools at some stages in your life.
Let’s not only go over the basic tools but, some power tools that you will need to purchase or borrow to create beautiful kitchen corner floating shelves.
Ruler is great for general measuring projects or windows for curtains. Right now, I own a tape measure, elementary ruler and a yard stick.
Levels are essential when hanging anything on a wall or verifying that your floating shelves are leveled.
Versatile C-clamp is something I just purchased for this project but, will use a lot in the future now that I own. A C-clamp will be helpful to clamp two pieces of glued wood together and give a tight finish.
Basic Toolbox of Power Tools
An Electric Drill is something that I grab at least once a week because of its versatility.
Owning an Electric Drill, you can drill metal, wood, plastic even concrete. When it is time to install the floating shelves to the wall, you will have to predrill an add an anchor and then drill a screw into the anchor with a screw.
Palm Sander is not that important to have but, it is my second power tool that I owned. I use my power sander on everything and makes the job go by quicker. The palm sander moves in a circular motion and a finishing tool to all my wood projects. Best for finishing any wood project and providing a smooth finish a palm sander makes life easier.
Miter Saw is a power tool I got familiar a few years ago. A Miter Saw helps with all wood projects and very versatile. Note, you can use a circular saw as well and they tend to be a bit affordable.
Brad Nailer is a new power tool to my kit. A brad Nailer is used for small trim projects and attaching DIY floating shelves together.
How to Decorate Kitchen Corner Floating Shelves
I love displaying and adding touches in my home that are cozy and show off my personality. Of course, on my Kitchen Floating Shelves I want to display a cookbook, bowls, vintage teacups and plates.
Also, any type of greenery to a shelf gives such a whimsical, cozy vibe plus this are gets so much sun in the late afternoon.
Shelves in a space can provided organization but, they can bring out style and personality.
When decorating shelves design to reflect who you are and the people who live in your home.

1.) First, measure the area where you will place your Kitchen Corner Floating Shelf. I measure from the inside of my windowsill to an outlet above my tiled backsplash to determine my cuts. Next, with a pencil measure your wood and mark. Take a ruler and make a straight line. Now with a table saw make the Appropriate cuts. Dry fit all the pieces together. You will need a top and bottom piece cut to the appropriate size, one front piece (to connect top and bottom and two side pieces.
2.) With a stud finder make the appropriate studs and rule out any live wiring and assembly and attach floating shelf brackets.
Pieces and glue your floating shelf pieces together around your brackets. In order to keep things from rocking or moving you may have to add wood between top and bottom wood pieces.
Glue and clamp together. With a nail gun or hammer nails to secure all the pieces. Add wood filler to any holes. Allow twenty-four hours for wood glue to dry.
Sanding and Staining
3.) Sand your Floating Shelf until smooth including the edge with a sander or sandpaper with a grit of one hundred. Now, with a lightly damp cloth wipe away any saw dust. Apply conditioner to your wood floating shelves and allow to dry.
4.) Take your stain and staining pad and stain entire shelving unit. You can leave the wood bare if you like! Allow stain to dry twenty-four hours. On scrap wood before I stained my actual shelves, I experiment with different stains to get the desire look I wanted.
5.) Now it is time to cover and seal the wood with a polyurethane. Let dry for twenty-four hours.
6.) Next, secure your corner floating shelf to your desire area. Everything should slip into place. Only put forty pounds or less on each shelf.
7.) Finally, add your favorite decor or functional kitchenware to the floating shelves. Have fun and decorate and add all the finishing touches.
