Spring is here even though it does not feel like it here in Michigan.  With snow on the ground and still staying indoors one thing is still on my mind: Spring Clean and Refresh of the Living Room.

It is a great feeling to clean everything after a long winter however it is a dreaded chore that must be done!  To deal with this dreaded task of Spring Cleaning I gave myself one hour to do some serious cleaning of my main living space along with my budget friendly tips on refreshing any space.

Spring Clean and Refresh of the Living Room Checklist

First, thing before you can refresh, decorate and space it is essential you give it a good cleaning. I like to start at the top of the room and work my way down.

Get rid of anything that is not serving the space anymore and declutter to create a blank slate.

Checklist

First start cleaning any light fixture and ceiling Fans in the living room.

  • I dust fixtures and fans often, but they need a good cleaning with warm water and soap because of the grime build up that accumulates over the winter.
  • Next up it to wipe down walls and ceilings. Remover winter cobwebs, marks and dust. Simply use warm soapy water for cleaning all ceiling and walls in the living room.
  • Now it is time to clean windows. Clean windows with glass cleaner and jams, ceases and crevasse with warm soapy water. Windows get a lot of dirt and grime over the winter months.
  • Chairs, Couches and other furniture clean with my vacuum in all the crevices and give a good wiped down with a leather cleaner.
  • Pillows and Throw Blankets give a refresh by changing color, spot cleaning or cleaning in the washing machine.
  • Clean out the main coat closet by decluttering and vacuuming the floor.  Also, remove all the winter coats, boats and replaces with spring gear.
  • Declutter shoes; put all shoes away you do not wear on a daily basis in the spring and take winter shoes cleaned and stored away.

Spring Clean and Refresh of the Living Room Tips on a Budget

Paint

Changing up the wall and/or ceiling color can not only refresh the space but change the mood. My walls when you enter into my living room use to be green and brown. At the time I adore the color but, it was time for a change, and I went with a crisp, traditional Sherwin Williams color Alabaster.

The color was a big change but, I love the endless possibilities of adding color in the linens and fabrics.

The vibe I am going for in my home during the spring is clean lines and minimalist aesthetic.

Linens and Fabrics

A nice color palette in placing your pillows and throws around the living room can transform a space and refresh it.

Different types of fabrics in a room can change the tone of the room. A soft velvet can make you feel sophisticated, and a wool provides rugged and warmth.

Changing color in your living room can happen during the season such as spring and provide color to warm up a space. In the spring months to make my space inviting, I love added light fabrics and linens.

Greenery and Fresh Flowers

Consider adding natural elements to your space such either on shelves or on side tables. Tucking sprigs of greenery and flowers are a pleasant touch to create color and interest to warm up a space. Many seasons I have added faux and real greenery and flowers. Depending on budget the possibilities are endless.

Cutting greens to add to your vases, basket or wreaths for warmth; guess what they are right outside your back door and very cost efficient.

Finally, always consider family members or whoever lives within the home to make it a place where everyone that lives there feels at home.

Now that we have worked our way to the bottom I cannot forget the flooring. If does not matter if you have hardwood floors, carpets, or tile floors but, to refresh the space we are going to add a small area rug to brighten things up.

Find out your local thrift store sales dates, such as half off day.

A lot of time your local thrift store will post sale days on Social Media Platforms.

Shop the bottom up! When scouring the shelves and racks at your local thrift store, look in places that many will not. Shop low and very high for items that many do not see.

Always shop off season, at Christmas time think Spring and vice versa.

Do not be afraid to bargain, the worse the person will say is “NO”! A good rule of thumb is I try to barter for at least twenty five percent less the asking price. Be honest, if priced fair, pay the price!

Research the items you are looking to purchase to determine if the price is fair.

When thrifting you can find the best deals at flea markets, garage sales and church sales.

Thrift Store Shopping for Spring Clean and Refresh of the Living Room

Thrift Store can be tricky if you do not have the right strategy in place when shopping them.

First you must know when shopping at a thrift store it is “Wave”! Stoking of the store happen at certain times and days. Your goal is to find out when this happens.

Typically thrift stores are fully stock by Tuesday morning after decluttering happened and donations are dropped off.

Second, know when your local thrift store stocks after big donation days, this is helpful because you can look and explore what may be a resource in creating a gorgeous home.

Third, shop in the morning before large crowds and your able to take your time up and down the aisle.

Fourth, know your local thrift store sale days. Every thrift store I shopped at has a day where they discount items and this is helpful when you have a budget in thrifting to create a gorgeous Home

Finally, look over ever area twice and high and low. Usually, I enter the thrift store and scan the are once and then go back again to really focus on the area that caught my eye. Going through a thrift store twice can be helpful because the first time you may have miss something that would be perfect in Creating a Gorgeous Home
