My goal is to create a home that speaks cozy, love and peace. I want less clutter and more functional pieces of furniture and decor items that not only represent my personal style but, without breaking the bank. These days, money is limited, and I have to get creative in creating a place I want to live in. I will share my tips and tricks on how to decorate a side table on a budget, and it will inspiring you and you’ll be itching to get started with your space and design a home you will love.

Steps on How to Decorate a Side Table on a Budget

Through the years my style has changed but, now my style is simple and classic. I found an inexpensive side table that created storage and replaced the old, bulky piece that was too fancy for my home. The old side table did not really have storage for anything, but wine bottle and it was huge and very fancy. My home is older, and I wanted a simple side table that was functional and pretty. I want to give you some advice and hopefully inspire you to design a home you love.

Here are my steps on how to decorate a side Table on a Budget.

1.) First, clear the space that you are decorating by decluttering and cleaning. Wipe all surfaces with wood, glass or disinfecting spray.

2.) Next, decide your color scheme that you like to use. My walls are “Alabaster” from Sherwin Williams and pretty neutral. I wanted to add some color such as blue. I found some blue pieces at a garage sale that go very well in my dining space.

3.) Shop your home for items to decorate your side table on a budget. Sometimes you can find items around your home that will brighten up the space. After shopping your home visit thrift store, secondhand stores or garage sales for some items to decorate your side table on a budget.

I found a Kirkland Lantern at Goodwill, a Kirkland clock at a garage sale and many of my items to decorate my side table at secondhand stores.

4.) The wall that I placed my side table was on a bare wall in my dining room. Inside the side table there are many items such as China, cloth napkins, and stemware. My side table needs to be functioning but, beautiful as well. Above the side table I did buy a gorgeous, simple mirror for half off at Target. After many failed attempts I just could not find a big mirror at a secondhand store however, I found an inexpensive one from Target. Try not to be afraid to look for sales on items you want and patience you will find them eventually.

Note, you will have to secure and anchor your large mirror.

5.) Finally, above the mirror I previously had an ivy sway but, it needed some updating. I added some eucalyptus sprigs to bring the living and dining room together because both rooms are connected and created a modern swag that broke up the white of the walls and side table.

I hope this motivates you to decorate a side table on a budget that you can do with very little money. All you need to create a beautiful space is patience and time.

Shopping at a Secondhand Store to Decorate a Side Table

Secondhand Store can be tricky if you do not have the right strategy in place when shopping them.

First you must know when shopping at a secondhand store it is “Wave”! Stoking of the store happen at certain times and days. Your goal is to find out when this happens.

Typically, secondhand stores are fully stock by Tuesday morning after decluttering happened and donations are dropped off.

Second, know when your local secondhand store stocks after big donation days, this is helpful because you can look and explore what may be a resource in decorating a side table.

Third, shop in the morning before large crowds and your able to take your time up and down the aisle.

Fourth, know your local secondhand store sale days. Every secondhand store I shopped at has a day where they discount items, and this is helpful when you are strapped for cash and want to decorate a side table on a budget.

Finally, look over ever area twice and high and low. Usually, I enter the secondhand store and scan the are once and then go back again to really focus on the area that caught my eye. Going through a secondhand store twice can be helpful because the first time you may have miss something that would be perfect in decorating a side table on a budget.

Find out your local secondhand store sales dates, such as half off day. A lot of time your local secondhand

store will post sale days on Social Media Platforms.

Shop the bottom up! When scouring the shelves and racks at your local thrift store, look in places that many will not. Shop low and very high for items that many do not see.

Always shop off season, at Christmas time think Spring and vice versa.

Do not be afraid to bargain, the worse the person will say is “NO”! A good rule of thumb is I try to barter for at least 25% less the asking price. Be honest, if priced fair, pay the price!

Research the items you are looking to purchase to determine if the price is fair.

When thrifting you can find the best deals at flea markets, garage sales and church sales. I did find a blue cake stand and blue clock at a garage sale to decorate my side table on a budget.
